While many people weren’t able to stay home and watch the USA vs. Algeria game, that doesn’t mean they weren’t watching. ESPN has reported that the instant classic of a match was followed by a record number of people online and on mobile devices.
According to the numbers, 1.1 million people watched at least some of the match as it was streamed on ESPN3.com and it averaged 328,000 viewers per minute. The match also had 6.2 million viewers on ESPN and a large number of radio listeners who tuned in while on their commute to work on the west coast.
The audience topped the then record online audience recorded earlier this year for the NCAA Championship basketball game between Duke and Butler.
