We heard of the 18-month old who signed a 10 year deal with Holland‘s Eredivisie club VVV Venlo earlier in the year and we thought that was a bit ridiculous. But Brazil‘s Luis Alvaro de Oliveira, President of Santos, might have outdone the Holland Club by inviting the Brazillian legend himself, Pele, to once again don the Santos kit for the Club World Cup tournament this December.
He reasons that the Club World Cup shouldn’t be a strenuous tournament since only two games will be played. Also, if Santos were to win, Pele will have won three Club World Cup titles, a perfect match to the three World Cup titles he won with Brazil.
This shouldn’t be a problem for anyone, unless you consider that Pele, currently the New York Cosmos Honorary President, is 70 years young. Not to add that the last time Pele played was back in 1977 when he played against Santos, donning the New York Cosmos Jersey.
Whether he’ll play or not is yet to be seen, but you can be sure that FIFA is just loving all the publicity it’s getting from Santos’ request.[Gallery not found]
