Germany #1 Goalkeeper Hit by Train

Some shocking and very sad news to report regarding the German National Team. Top goalkeeper Robert Enke was fatally struck by a train Tuesday evening in in Frankfurt, Germany. Enke who was also the starting goalkeeper on German Bundesliga team Hannover 96, was 32. P
olice believe the tragic event was a suicide.
Enke was diagnosed with a bacterial stomach ailment several weeks ago, but publicly he seemed unaffected. He started for his club team, Hannover 96 over the weekend. The loss of Enke comes as a complete surprise and has left his family, teammates and fans in disbelief. The highly rated goalkeeper leaves behind a wife and young daughter.
Update: Today (11/11) more information has surfaced regarding the unfortunate suicide of German goalkeeper Robert Enke.

It was revealed by his wife that Enke had been long suffering from depression. It was something he tried hard to keep a secret, but ultimately it got the best of him.
His wife explained that his depression stemmed from multiple things including the loss of his biological daughter three years ago to a heart condition and his fears that his recently adopted daughter could be taken from him if the public were to learn of his illness. Enke had originally sought treatment after he lost his starting goalkeeper position at mega club Barcelona in 2003. At that point he began developing anxieties and fear of failure.
The day of his death, Enke refused treatment saying he was feeling well, which he later apologized for lying about in his suicide note.








Robert Enke was a great German goalkeeper, and a great professional. He will be missed my all. RIP.
