Spain Invited to Join Latin America’s Best

Spain has been collecting silverware from some of the world’s biggest tournaments, first at Euro Cup 2008 and more recently at last summers World Cup. Now it seems they have the opportunity to add some Latin American silverware to the collection.

After the horrific earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan last month, many had doubts about the Samurai Blue’s ability to compete in this summers Copa America to be held in Argentina. The Japanese Football Association had stated they would be participating early last month, but have now decided to withdraw from the competition due to conflicts with the rescheduled J-League games.

With only a few months left till the tournament, organisers CONMEBOL need to fill in the void and have set their sights on Spain. As Latin America’s biggest football event and with some promising young stars, this summers Copa America in Argentina has the potential to become one of the most competitive to date.

While no decisions have been made as of yet, Spain have no competitive fixtures during the summer with the exception of a friendly in the United States on 4 June, making Spain’s appearance in Argentina a high possibility.
